APS Prescott Airport Solar Power Plant Thrives In A Harsh Desert Climate

With average temperatures ranging from minus 10°F to 103°F, Prescott’s mile-high location in the Arizona desert presented Arizona Public Service (APS) and Amonix with an unparalleled opportunity to prove performance expectations of concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar power generators in rigorous real world conditions.

In 2002, they partnered to install the world’s largest utility-scale CPV solar power plant near Prescott Airport.  With 20 years in business, 15 years of real-world CPV deployments, and seven generations of system development, Amonix was the ideal experienced technology partner for APS. And because Amonix CPV systems do not require water to operate and do not require land grading or special treatment of the site, they create minimal impact on the local natural environment, and are found to be the best choice for sunny and dry climates like the Arizona desert.
