In Memory of Brian Robertson
Brian Robertson
1973-2011
Today we remember the life and accomplishments of Brian Robertson, our chief executive officer, who died yesterday when the airplane he was piloting crashed in Pennsylvania. Brian was flying there to join his family for the holidays. We wish Brian’s wife Eileen and their three children peace and strength as they cope with their loss.
Brian was an energetic, charismatic leader with such drive and ambition. He was devoted to establishing the commercial viability of CPV in this huge arena of solar energy; it was impossible not to get drawn into his passion for its potential. We will continue on the path to realize his dream.
We are devastated by this tragedy. Brian was an incredible leader, and our heart goes out to his family.
Surviving Brian are his parents David and Donna Robertson, his sister Julie, his wife Eileen and children, Melanie, Brooke and Max.
For those who wish to make a donation in Brian's honor, the following foundation has been set up:
‘Brian D. Robertson Foundation’
Tax deductable donations will be used to provide support for the organizations and causes that were most important to Brian, including the Solar Foundation, YMCA Indian Princess/Guide Program, MIT, Harvard Business School, American Heart Association, etc.

I met Brian some years ago.
I met Brian some years ago. He was really impressive from the begin on. I am pretty sure, that I will never forget this man. He gave me so much, not only on a work base also in my private live. Without him, I wouldn´t be the person I am right now. And I will always love him for this, and will be always thankful. I also wanted to say thank you to his parents, that they give us and the world such an impressiv present, without you guys, the world would have missed this perfect guy. I know he is a man you will always hold in your heart. I hope someday I will meet someone like him again, but I am not sure if theire is a other person with such an spirit. I wish I could have had the chance to meet him again. To show him Who I am now, and to tell him, that he is the reason why I am how I am. Rest in peace good old Brian. You will always live in our hearts. Take care of your family from above.
Brian Robertson
Brian's tragic death is a great loss to his family and to the solar community. May god give his family strength to bear the loss. I did not know Brian personally but after having worked in CPV for a very long time it is very painful to learn that the life was cut short before the mission was complete.
With Heartfelt Condolences

Precious moments
I knew Brian too briefly. Our firm worked in a small way with his. This work gave me an opportunity to meet that I will not forget. When we first met, I was struck by a passionate engagement that clearly must have carried through in his personal life. Brian had the rare ability to both speak and listen with genuine respect, curiosity and intelligence. I remember this brilliant man offering his time and knowledge with uncommon generosity, warmth and grace. His spirit was evident in the people that he gathered around himself in the course of our projects together. Everyone had a commitment to explore and embrace the new while excelling at whatever challenges were presented. This spirit continues.
I find myself especially moved that he made time to enjoy his family and find particularly special time with his kids in the Y-Princesses/Guides program – I know that those precious moments together are a treasure they will always carry. He leaves having made us more thoughtful, caring and committed to making the world a better place. His presence in our lives has been a gift too short in time; yet timeless. Our hearts open to his family, friends and colleagues.

I had known Brian for only a short time, but he left a lasting impression and remains one of my most positive influences. My deepest sympathies go out to the Robertson family.
Model Businessman and Father
Prayer for Brian Robertson
I came from New Delhi to Pune for an interview at Large Power Plant Division of Thermax and they told me that they were starting in the field of CPV with Amonix. CPV technology is very new to India and to get more information about CPV work done by Amonix, I visited www.amonix.com for the first time. I am shocked to get the news of sad demise of young Brian, who incidently is of my age. This is a big loss to the solar industry, particularily Solar CPV industry, Amonix, the family of Brian and people associated with Brian. My heart felt condolances.
May God rest Brian's soul in peace and give strength to his family to bear the loss.
With our sincere condolences to Brian's family and close friends

A Terrible Loss for Solar, Planet, and Family
BDR was the kind of man our industry, and our planet, needs more of: driven, intelligent, purposeful, action-oriented, ferociously curious, passionate, fair. He helped to shape and lead what I'm sure we all -- years from now -- recognize as the modern face of the US solar industry. Everyone in the Zep Solar family extends thier deepest sympathies to the Robertson family, the team at Amonix, and to Brian's legions of friends and admirers.
And, at this very challenging moment for our industry, let's resolve -- all of us -- to bring a little more "BDR" to our game. The earth, and the memory of this great man, deserve no less.
Condolences From Xcel Energy
We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Brian Robertson. I have only spoken with Brian a few times, and one of those times in person, when he attended an event we held at SolarTAC in Aurora, CO last June. I was quite impressed with the astute way he looked at the solar energy arena. He was a real visionary and will be missed!
Frank Novachek, Director, Corporate Planning, Xcel Energy
My Condolences to BDR's Family
My sincerest condolences to BDR's family, friends and colleagues. A very unique individual, serial entrepreneur, and all around cool guy. It was a great pleasure to work with BDR as one of the founding members of SunEdison in installing the first of several 1 MW solar systems for the State of California back in 2005. I learned a great deal about the business side of solar from BDR and company and will always be grateful for his guidance and advice. A great loss to the solar industry and community.
Our sympathies for the loss of your courageous leader
On Behalf of Solectria Renewables, we offer our deepest sympathies for this sudden tragedy. We had the pleasure of knowing Brian through our business with Amonix and hold Brian and the team he was instrumental in building in our highest regard. What Brian stood for, his leadership and his accomplishments will live on through all those he touched both in his professional and personal lives. By reading all these postings, it is clear that Brain was an inspiration to everyone in his life. May God comfort his family and all those affected by this tragic loss.
Sincere condolences from Brian's friends at Black & Veatch
Our hearts go out to BDR's family and colleagues. He was a real inspiration and we will miss him.

I am astounded, still couldn’t believe it, my deepest condolence to Brian’s family. A very sad day in Amonix history.
Our sincere condolence to the
Our sincere condolence to the Robertson family and Amonix organization.
With Heavy Hearts...
The Bombard team was deaply saddened to hear about this tragic accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Robertson family, as well as Brian's Amonix family. The Las Vegas community and the solar industry lost a tremendous leader in Brian.
An incredible force for change
While I didn't know Brian well, I knew him over a 15 year period where he and I followed similar paths through internet start-ups in to solar start-ups. As we intersected every few months, I saw in him a courage, resolve and passion that was rare and powerful. He clearly had so much to give the planet and its people. It's difficult to understand why people like Brian can be taken from us so early, but there is some solice in the recognition that his impact will be felt for generations.
On behalf of everyone at Suntech, I wish the best for Brian's wife and young children. They will be told many times, I'm sure, but their father was a great man, who left a great legacy.
With Heavy Hearts
There are no words... our thoughts and prayers go out to Brian's family. And also the Amonix family.
With heavy hearts,
Caliber Construction, Inc.
A Great Leader
There are no words, I didn't know him on a personal basis but in the time I worked for Amonix I admired the fire and visions he had for Amonix. I pray that God bring comfort to Brian's family and friends who did know him well, I know he touched many lives in his far too short lifetime. I am sincerely sorry for this great loss to Amonix but above all for his family.
May Brian's vision for Amonix stay alive and strong and reach it's true potential.
a sad day
My last memory of Brian was at SPI in Dallas - the bartender had made a mistake and gave him two drinks instead of one - so he came up to me with that smile that I'll always remember, looking to quickly get rid of one of his drinks. The one thing I remember is how annoyed I was at how he could still* sound so smart and professional even after a few drinks!
Brian was a force to be reckoned with. He was one of those rare breeds that could go as deep as you wanted to on the numbers and the financial model but then go back up talk about the grand vision, strategy and then the execution plan. The energy, enthusiasm and determination that he displayed in business was contagious, and I hope it has rubbed off of one or two entrepreneurs who will use those skills to make a difference in this industry. The solar industry has lost a true pioneer and leader. Brian - may you rest in peace - you've left an indelible mark on us all. We will miss you.
Brian was special
I had the pleasure and good fortune to know Brian for the past several year through his work at Solar Works, Amonix and as a fellow SEIA Board member. He left a strong impact on me, and on a wide universe of others who also had the good fortune to know him. He carried himself with a remarkable combination of high energy, intellectual rigor, imagination and an unwavering ethical compass. He was a great listener, warm and engaging, firm in his own opinions, and yet always open to absorb new perspectives and ideas from those around him. He will be missed, but his legacy will endure.
A Great Loss
We are saddened and loss for words at the sudden demise of Brian. Please accept our condolences and may his strength and vision continue to live at Amonix. Our heartfelt sadness, thoughts and prayers are with Brian's family during this tragic time
A Very Sad Loss for his family, Amonix and the Solar Industry

Jim Milstead
Condolences from the team at Solar Junction
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Eileen, children and family. While I have known Brian for only a couple of years we shared many very interesting discussions and interactions. One could be sure that meeting Brian would be memorable.
There have been many mentions of Brian as a visionary. He was surely that and more for the solar industry and CPV and a very interesting character. We will remember Brian as a charismatic whirlwind of energy who was well suited to lead the charge. He will be greatly missed and our thoughts go out to our business friends at Amonix.
With deepest sympathy,
Jim Weldon on behalf of the team at Solar Junction
Deepest condolences
I only knew Brian for one day - I spent a full day, one-on-one with him at Amonix in Las Vegas in Feb of this year, during which he gave me an overview of Amonix and a tour of the company. When I got back home to the Bay Area, I felt compelled to email him and let him know that I believed he was one of the most impressive human beings I had ever met. He was a force of nature. My deepest condolences to Brian's young family. The world has prematurely lost a great, great man.
You will be missed however your legacy will carry on....
It is with deepest sympathy that I write this message.
I have and always will hold Brian Robertson in the highest regard. He was a brilliant businessman, loyal to those around him, whose work ethic was unparalleled by those who have had the honor to engage with him.
I will continue to aspire to be like you and will work tirelessly to carry on in this industry in your honor.
To his wife Eileen, I pray that you receive strength from God and the support of your family now and in the future.
To his children, know that your father was an incredible man and that he has left behind a legacy that you can be proud of.
To his extended family, I am deeply sorry for your loss.
BDR....my friend....you will be missed.
gone too early
I am honored to have known Brian for as long as I have been in the solar industry. he was a real visionary and made a huge contribution to the advancement of solar. he was kind and I will miss him. my deepest sympathies to his family
Condolences
I want to express my sincere condolences on the sudden passing of Brian Robertson. May God comfort the Robertson family during this difficult time.
Such a tragedy!
Brian was a visionary. We have been interacting with him for the past few months and I always saw him striving for the best. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.
Brian Robertson's Legacy
We are all so saddened by the loss of such a transformational leader, especially at this cross roads of maturity within our solar
industry. But, we are not without an inner spirit and drive to suceed, inspired greatly by such strong leaders as Brian and Steve Jobs.
Visionaries set the path. It is up to all of us to rise to our greatest capabilities, whether personal or professional.
Via con Dios Brian.
Condolences on Behalf of the CPV Consortium
To Brian's family, friends, and Amonix team,
We want to offer our thoughts and prayers to Brian's family. The loss for the solar industry and for the CPV segment of that industry is immense, but we realize that no loss matches that being experienced by his family. We hope that you find comfort in knowing that Brian has touched the lives of many in our industry, helping achieve a dream that many of us share. Brian brought a new energy and commitment to our industry, and will always be remembered for that. We also want to extend our deepeest sympathy to our colleagues at Amonix during this difficult time. Know that your friends and colleagues of the CPV Consortium are thinking of you, and stand at the ready to provide support in anyway possible.
Again, our deepest sympathy to all.
Nancy Hartsoch, on behalf of the CPV Consortium
I am so sad...
Although Brian and I went to school together, it wasn't until our first job at Mitchell Madison is where I met him and got to know him really well. He was an amazing person and for ever an entrepreneur. I just reconnected with Brian on Monday and we talked about solar power and the power markets. He was such a key driver in the solar industry and this is such a big loss. But most importantly of all, I lost a friend. My deepest condolences to Brian's family. He is in my prayers.

I knew Brian personally for
I knew Brian personally for only a short time. In that time I found him to be highly ethical, caring and committed. He will be missed by so many. There is no true comfort with a loss like this for his family, who will miss him every day. I am so sorry and so very sad for their loss.
Sadness
I was so shocked and so sad. Despite wherever we are, we all witnessed the great achievements brought by Brian to Amonix and the CPV industry. Rest in peace, Brian.
Guy Rong from Suntrix, China
Loss of a leader
We are deeply saddened to hear of Brian's passing. His was a leader who made a significant impact on clean energy development. Our hearts go out to his family, colleagues and friends.
- Jackie Phillips on behalf of the staff of the Nevada Institute of Renewable Energy Commercialization
So sad
I'm so sad to hear about Brian. Brian was a visionary leader in the PV community. Both his work with SunEdison and with Amonix demonstrated his vision of how to make PV and CPV a success by finding ways to streamline the work; and, he had the commitment and the talent to make it all happen. The world has lost a true leader.
Losing a visionary and a great leader
My deepest and sincere condolences to his wife, children and his family for their loss. There are many of us in the company who were hired by Brian; the decision to work at Amonix was a slam dunk after meeting with him in person. His passion, vision, tenacity and belief in solar energy is what got me excited to join Amonix. It was very shocking for me personally to hear about his demise especially since I had lunch with him a day prior where he talked about work and different strategies. This memory will resurface each time I eat a hot pastrami sandwich from subway. I will never forget my time and moments with Brian and his legacy will live on at Amonix. I’ve worked for many companies but have never respected and admired anyone as much I did Brian. He was one of the true advocates of solar energy and will be missed. He had many great traits but the one that struck me was his attention to details and multitasking. He was walking human calculator and no one dared to challenge him with numbers. He was great leader who never lost his cool even in the most stressful situations. It was his vision to make Amonix a success so all of us should pledge to make his vision come to reality by taking Amonix to highest levels in the solar industry. I learned a great deal from him and I looked up to him as a great mentor.
This is an unspeakable loss.
This is an unspeakable loss. My deepest condolenses to Brian's family and wishes to stay strong during these difficult times. I feel very priviledged to have known and observed Brian during the last 2 years at Amonix. He set a lot of examples of leadership, perserverance and strategic thinking that I will always look up to. Brian accomplished so much and will continue to remind us of the importance of leaving legacy in this world and being the best selves we can possibly be.
Sadness
Our hearts and prayers go out to Brian's family in this time. This is truly a tragic event. Brian was a great man and an excellent leader. While Amonix must now go on without Brian, we need to make ourselves available to support his family, and ensure that he's in our memories during this season of rebirth.
Will Truly Be Miss
I only met Brian a few timessince I started with Amonix but I could tell everytime he was a kind, genuine, great man. He had an honest smile and warm heart. He will be truly missed. My wife and I extend our deepest sympathy and prayers to the entire family at this time.
Terrible Loss
It was simply terrible to hear about the passing of Brian Robertson. Above all, we are deeply saddened for Brian's wife and children, who are bearing this heavy burden at far too young an age. We also know that the Amonix family is shocked and heartbroken to have lost such an inspiring, brilliant and visionary leader.
Clearly, Brian's passing is also a tremendous loss for the solar tech industry and the green power cause. We'll never know what contributions he would have made in the future, but in his time at Amonix he was already tipping the scales in favor of alternative fuel and a greener environment. Most of us dream about making an impact on the world before we die. Brian was someone who actually did.
Saddened beyond words...
I'm so saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Brian. I knew him for only a short time and was certainly touched by his intellect and passion for everything he did. My heartfelt wishes go out to his colleagues and, most importantly, his family. He will be missed by many.
Losing our White Knight
The deepest of condolences to his wife, children, family, friends and all of us at Amonix who loved him. Brian's leadership was the reason I joined Amonix. It is the reason a lot of us joined Amonix. He believed in the company and all of his staff so deeply that making the decision to work at Amonix was one of the clearest choices in my life. He was the most inspirational leader I've ever met, and words truly cannot express the fire of Brian's presence. If ever any of us had doubts concerning our work, our purpose, our direction, a few simple words of encouragement from Brian could refocus you so quickly that you felt silly ever feeling anything but an absolute certainty of success. He was such a fantastic visionary and role model that if you were someone lucky enough to share a conversation with him the best choice you could make was to just listen, just absorb. And yet, one of his premiere qualities was his ability to just listen. He was a man more successful in business and family during his short 38 years than most people would be in a hundred lifetimes, and yet he maintained humbleness and an ability to listen, to continue learning. It was simply awe inspiring. He was a man who made everyone who knew him want to be a better leader, a better father and husband, a better person. Brian's sweat and leadership indisputably brought some of greatest moments in 20 year history of this company, and his sudden passing will long be remembered as the worst. We've lost our white knight. But, we all know that with time, reflection, prayer and love our spirits will grow stronger and our purpose clear. We will learn to focus not on the agony of his loss, but on the veracity of his vision. All of us who knew him will cherish the time he gave to us, the time he spent enlightening us, educating us. I promise to never take that time for granted, to reiterate his lessons in all that I do and to always remember to pause, to listen and think, “What would Brian do?”
I have been struggling the
I have been struggling the most with why this would happen to such a good man; I believe in karma for the most part, but sometimes it just doesn't seem fair. I recently read a passage that helped me understand this apparent and bittersweet irony, "some people, sweet and attractive, and strong and healthy, happen to die young. They are masters in disguise teaching us about impermanence." I know Brian will continue to inspire and teach for a long time to come. We love you Brian.
Tragic Loss for Brian's Family, Amonix and the Solar Industry
Brian will be deeply missed for all of his incredible qualities and vision.
The world lost a great human
The world lost a great human being! Rest in Peace Brian.
Your Cousin
