Real-World Performance of CPV Solar Power Plants

Amonix is the leader in utility scale concentrated photovoltaic (CPV) solar power systems in sunny and dry climates, based on its proven experience in CPV technology.

Founded by Vahan Garboushian in Torrance, California in 1989, Amonix has over two decades of success in CPV solar power technology.

Amonix technology has been operating in the field for over 18 of those years. In that time, the Amonix team has developed eight generations of systems with increasing performance and cost efficiency.

Our CPV solar power systems produce more energy per acre than any other solar technology.

But real-world performance is the critical differentiator. The proof is in the reliability of day to day operations, as clean renewable solar power is produced by our CPV technology, including the latest generation of CPV systems, which are based on the high-efficiency multijunction solar cell that supersedes the older silicon version.

Eighteen Years of Real-World Performance

Amonix engineered its first CPV system in 1994. This 20 kW system led to seven more generations of development, resulting in efficiency increases and scalability improvements. The latest is the Amonix 7700 CPV Solar Power Generator, delivering 60 kW per unit.

Some Amonix systems, like the one in Pomona, CA, have been in place for more than twelve years. Others, like NV Energy's Clark Operating Station installation outside Las Vegas, NV, have been in continuous operation since 2006.

In Spain, three separate phases of a CPV solar power installation were commissioned in Navarra between 2006 and 2008, with a total generating capacity of 7.8 MW. They have operated  reliably ever since.

No other concentrated photovoltaic manufacturer has delivered solar power for so long under real-world conditions.  But don’t take just our word for it. Consider what our customers around the world have to say:

“The output improvements we are measuring with multijunction solar cells significantly improve the performance of Amonix’s CPV technology,” said Robert F. Boehm, Director of the Center for Energy Research University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

The sunniest country in western Europe,  Spain has the largest CPV solar power plant in the world,  making good use of its solar resources and Amonix CPV technology.

“Amonix CPV technology has been instrumental to our efforts to install proven solar technology that can generate energy quickly and cost-efficiently for Navarra’s citizens and businesses. We believe that utility-scale solar power will play a significant role in the region’s future,” said Jordy Creixell, Industrial VP of Guascor Futon, a division of Spanish solar power industry leader Guascor Solar Corporation.
